Stakeholder Input Received at Old Fitzhugh Road Concept Plan Workshop

DRIPPING SPRINGS, TEXAS APRIL 23 – Approximately 50 people attended a workshop at City Hall last week to review a draft of an Old Fitzhugh Road Concept Plan and provide preliminary comments, feedback, input, and preferences. The workshop provided an opportunity for stakeholders and citizens to record their comments and meet directly with the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) team members, who have been working for the past six months on the draft concept plan, an accurate survey of right of way, and internal and external previews by City staff and key property owners. Old Fitzhugh Road street and drainage improvements with improved streetscape, including sidewalks, and lighting, is one of the TIRZ’s high priority projects.

Stakeholders attending the workshop voted on top improvements they desired which included sidewalks, traffic calming measures, and curbside parking. They also discussed qualities that they would like to see preserved, such as trees, eclectic local shops, small town/country feel and old homes and historic buildings.

Some of the major challenges identified in the draft plan and in the workshop discussion include a narrow, irregular right of way, drainage and erosion, utilities, rough road surface, lack of commercial identity, speeding traffic, on-street parking, and poor lighting.

The team will now work to incorporate the feedback and preferences from the workshop into the conceptual plan and will begin to make presentations at various City Boards, Commissions and City Council meetings. Each presentation will also include Public Hearing opportunities and will be posted on the City’s website.

Citizens and stakeholders are encouraged to submit any thoughts, comments or feedback to City Secretary Andrea Cunningham at For more information, please contact City Hall at 512-858-4725.

Citizen involvement is welcome in both the upcoming Conceptual Plan approval process and in the future detailed planning and engineering phases.
