Texas Night Sky Festival: Star Studded Schedule Released

DRIPPING SPRINGS, TEXAS – February 5, 2019 – Celebrate the night with the return of Texas’ most loved star-studded celebration—The Texas Night Sky Festival® at Dripping Springs Ranch Park! All ages will delight in the stellar activities, speakers, entertainment and more set for the weekend of March 29-31. Friday night plans are forming for a special movie showing at Universe Sponsor, Sky Cinemas. Saturday, March 30 is the Big Festival and on Sunday, March 31, the Night Sky Advocates Workshop.

The Saturday fun starts at noon and continues well into the night. During the day, festival goers can step inside one of three mobile planetariums, or peer into special solar telescopes for a closer look at the sun. There will be children’s activities including crafts and storytelling. Young and not-so-young alike can earn a Dark Sky or Midnight Defender Patch. Stay with us for lunch and dinner as we’ll have delicious food available from a variety of food trucks.

After grabbing a bite, take a seat to hear from one of many world-renowned speakers including Bill Wren from the University of Texas’ McDonald Observatory, Dr. Russel Reiter from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and Irene Pease with the Hayden Planetarium.

The Texas Night Sky Festival® will also feature an excellent live music line-up and is pleased to announce award winning artists Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines will be headlining the music portion of the festival. Hendrix and Maines will take the stage at 7 p.m. just as the indoor booths close.

More fun is in store following sunset as festival goers can engage in yoga under the stars, a lesson in night sky photography and of course, a good, old-fashioned star party. Be sure to register for the Night Sky Advocates Workshop led by the International Dark-Sky Association on Sunday.

Admission, including all the activities and parking, is FREE thanks to our generous sponsors. The Texas Night Sky Festival® is co-hosted by Hays County Chapter Texas Master Naturalist, the City of Dripping Springs and TNSF Association, an Affiliate of the International Dark-Sky Association. Austin Astronomical Society, Stars and Science Austin, and the Hill Country Alliance have partnered with the hosts to make this event even more special for you.
