Special Note on Founders Day Festival from the Mayor of Dripping Springs

Note From the Mayor of Dripping Springs:

As many know by now, the Founders Day Festival Commission had to make the decision this week to cancel the 2021 festival. These are difficult and uncertain times and we know that this was not an easy decision for them to make.

Like all of us, they look forward to this annual event. The commission, along with countless volunteers, pour their hearts and souls into this annual event. Many of them have worked for years delivering a celebration of Dripping’s heritage and spirit. Many of them have friends who will not be able to participate in the Cook-off or perform or exhibit. Many of them have children and grandchildren who will not be able to view or participate in the parade and other wonderful events. All of them are hurting that they had to come to this conclusion.

The Commission spent many meetings looking at all options. I won’t go into all the factors that went into this decision, but it’s important to note that putting on this event does not happen overnight. It takes the volunteers months and months of preplanning. Along with the work, there are also many expenses that go into the planning. Many costs increased this year due to additional safety measures needed, with many of the expenses non-refundable. But the biggest factor was their key concern of having thousands of people in our wonderful City when we are in the midst of a pandemic.

As the Commission stated when making the decision, their top priority is, and will continue to be, the safety of their commissioners, volunteers, exhibitors, donors, contractors, and patrons of all ages. Holding it could put the volunteers’ health at risk as well as the health of thousands of residents and visitors.

We are a strong and caring community. It is why we love our wonderful city and why we live and work here. We’re almost through this challenge we’re all facing. Let’s continue to take care of each other and support each other. Let’s continue to support the many area non-profit organizations and churches that participate in Founders Day Festival as fundraisers to help our community, such as the Dripping Springs Cook-Off Club, The Dripping Springs Lions Club and St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church and more.

And let’s all support the Founders Day Commission and this difficult decision. I know their hearts and that’s why I also know one thing for sure: on April 22-24 in 2022, our little city is going to experience the best Founders Day Festival in the history of festivals!

All the best… stay well!

Mayor Bill Foulds, Jr.
