Building at “The Triangle” scheduled for demolition July 12-17

Building at “The Triangle” scheduled to come down
Demolition will occur July 12-17

DRIPPING SPRINGS, TEXAS –July 11, 2017- On Wednesday, July 12 demolition will begin on the cinder block building at “The Triangle,” located at 26550 Ranch Road 12.

The building, owned by the City, was formerly being used by our local VFW Post 2933 and American Legion Post 290.

After determining the building was structurally unsound in 2016, the two organizations refrained from holding meetings there and began a search for a new meeting location.

City Council recently approved a lease agreement that allows the VFW and American Legion Posts to temporarily use a portion of the Stephenson building, located at 101 Old Fitzhugh Road for their meetings.

Weather permitting, the demolition is expected to wrap up on July 17, avoiding any conflict with the Dripping Springs Farmers Market held every Wednesday at “The Triangle.” There are no road closures expected while the demolition is happening.

History of the building
Prior to being occupied as a VFW/American Legion hall, the building was once a county road maintenance yard and a fire station.
Though it has never been deemed as a contributing building in the City’s Mercer Street Historic District, the Historic Preservation Commission plans to recognize the diverse history of building in the future.

Follow Up Information (July 14, 2017): The City has no immediate plans to erect a building in place of the current building being demolished at “The Triangle.” To be clear, this property has not been sold.
As noted in the press release, ( the building came down due to safety reasons, and in the interim, the City is providing meeting space for our local VFW and American Legion posts. The City, along with a group of volunteers is working with developers to find a permanent home for the two organizations.
In the near future, the City will create a committee that will be tasked with analyzing the use of “The Triangle” and following up with recommendations.  Public participation is always encouraged, and anyone interested in joining that committee can call City Hall at 512-858-4725 for more information about becoming involved.
