Council Approves Proposed Sportsplex Drive Grant Application
05/18/2017

The Dripping Springs City Council has approved the grant application to TxDOT for the Sportsplex Drive Connectivity and Gap Elimination Project. The proposed pedestrian improvements are to be constructed from the High School past Walnut Springs Elementary, concluding at the US Hwy 290 connection.  After the Public Hearing, Gandolf Burrus, the City’s grant writer, discussed the proposal and presented a map.  Positive comments were received on need to enhance safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.  Upon completion, students and other pedestrians will be able to safely walk from the Dripping Springs High School campus near the entrance to DSYSA Park all to way to the intersection of Sportsplex Drive and US Hwy 290 without having to walk in the street among the heavy traffic.  The project will also provide a pedestrian connection to the TxDOT Mercer Street Historic District Project that the City completed utilizing a similar grant in 2014.  If funded, construction is to begin in 2020. The City is still seeking comments on the proposed project. Please e mail or text your comments to:    rgoodnight@cityofdrippingsprings.com.
