On Saturday, May 14, the City of Dripping Springs Parks and Community Service Department along with the Hays County Master Naturalists, the Hays County Master Gardeners, Tree Folks, and Dripping Springs Wild Birds Unlimited will hold the 2nd Annual Festival of Flight, a World Migratory Bird Day event. Festival of Flight is a free event that will be held at Dripping Springs Ranch Park from 7:30am -12pm and will celebrate and educate about the key role that migrant bird species play in our eco-system and the economy.

The Dripping Springs Festival of Flight is one of the events being held worldwide as part of World Migratory Bird Day, a global annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. This local event will help educate attendees on how migrant species play an important economic role in Dripping Springs and help generate millions in recreational dollars statewide. Festival of Flight will also educate the citizens on migratory birds and their habitats, including how they are declining throughout the Americas and how they face a growing number of threats on their migration routes in both their summer and winter homes.

Various organizations at the event will share ways individuals can help protect these sensitive migrant species. Guided bird hikes will take off at 7:30am, 9:00am, and 10:30am. Attendees can sign up for the guided walks here: cityofdrippingsprings.com/festival-of-flight. In between the hikes, families can partake in many of the activities and crafts available.

Festival of Flight is one of many events, activities, and initiatives the City of Dripping Springs holds throughout the year to help protect birds and their habitats and is part of why Dripping Springs was recently designated a Bird City Texas community.
