Special Note on Founders Day Festival from the Mayor of Dripping Springs

April 21, 2022

All of us with the City are excited that the 33rd Annual Founders Day Festival returns this weekend! Happy festivalgoers will soon return to Dripping Springs for our community’s annual hometown event and springtime celebration. The Festival will be held tomorrow through Sunday, with thousands of people converging on Dripping Springs’ historic downtown district for a festive celebration of our heritage and pioneer spirit.

The annual Founders Day Festival honors the founding of Dripping Springs in 1850 by the Moss, Wallace, and Pound families and celebrates the tremendous spirit of volunteerism that still exists in our community today. Hosted by the City of Dripping Springs and the Founders Day Commission, which represents various community organizations, the proceeds from the weekend of live music, savory foods, and good old-fashioned fun directly benefit local non-profit organizations, churches, school and park programs, youth groups, and charities.

This year’s event is even more special than those in years past. As many know, for the past two years the City and the Founders Day Festival Commission had to make tough decisions to cancel the last two festivals due to COVID. In making those decisions, ensuring the safety of attendees was our top priority. The commission, along with countless volunteers, pour their hearts and souls into this annual event and having to cancel the past two years weighed heavily on them. So, this year’s festival has an even deeper meaning for the Commission than years past. The Commission members have worked diligently over the past 9-12 months and are excited and ready for this wonderful event to return!

And just as safety was a top priority over the past couple of years, as this weekend’s fun commences, our top priority (along with delivering a fun event for all) is still the safety of everyone attending. With the thousands of eager festivalgoers expected this weekend, I want to encourage everyone to be patient with traffic and to keep the safety of our attendees, volunteers, exhibitors, and patrons of all ages at the top of our minds. Slow down, keep a watchful eye out for our neighbors, and let’s have a fun and SAFE weekend for all.

The best way to be safe is to be prepared in advance. You can get information on parking, events and more on the festival’s website: foundersdayfestival.com.

And lastly, let us all give a big THANK YOU to the Founders Day Commission, the sponsors, and all the volunteers for what we know will be a wonderful event for our City. I know this for sure: on April 22-24, our little city is going to experience the best Founders Day Festival in the history of festivals!

All the best… have fun… be safe!
