Environmental Health Department

The Environmental Health Department provides environmental education as well as enforcement of state laws, rules, and local ordinances pertaining to food sanitation, wastewater disposal, and other public health concerns.

Food, Lodging, and Institutional Sanitition

  • Reviews plans and issues permits to operate food service facilities
  • Conducts routine health/sanitation inspections of all establishments required by law
  • Issues sanitation grades to permitted establishments based upon results of inspections
  • Permits and inspects temporary food service establishments for special events (i.e. festivals, fairs, etc.)
  • Investigates public health complaints

On-Site Wastewater

  • Performs soil/site evaluations to determine suitability for on-site wastewater installations
  • Permits new and repaired on-site wastewater installations
  • Inspects and approves new and repaired on-site wastewater installations
  • Inspects existing system installations in certain situations
  • Investigates public health complaints

Ground Water Wells

The Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District works to conserve, preserve, recharge and prevent waste of groundwater within western Hays County. To help accomplish these goals the District is charged to gather information needed for sound decisions, to provide information to citizens and local agencies, and to insure that groundwater is used efficiently and at sustainable rates.
